ACORN Stair Lifts, Frequently Asked Questions
We wish you to help you as much as we possibly can, if you have a question which isn't answered here, please contact us:

question Can I install the ACORN Super-glide Stair Lift myself?
Answer Absolutely! In fact the ACORN Super-glide Stair Lift has been designed with self-installation in mind. There is no complex or potentially dangerous mains electricity wiring to contend with - the stair lift simply plugs into your wall outlet, just like any other domestic appliance and the stair lift is attached directly to the stair treads - not the wall, so there is no unsightly damage or alteration to the structure of your home.

The ACORN Super-glide Stair Lift is custom built for your stairway and all of the settings are fixed at our manufacturing plant, you will need only the most basic of tools to complete the installation.

question What kind of warranty does ACORN offer?
Answer The heart of the stair lift, the engine and gearbox assembly is covered by a lifetime warranty. Plus, if any component should fail, due to faulty manufacture, during the first year of ownership, ACORN will replace it free of charge. After that, we can supply you with spares at very competitive rates. One point to remember though... the ACORN Super-glide is a very, very reliable piece of equipment, engineered to the highest standards. We have more than 40,000 customers worldwide and problems are extremely rare.

question Are there any hidden costs?
Answer None whatsoever. The total price quoted covers all of the equipment, including the fitting kit and a video guide to installation. Express shipping from our factory - to your door, is also included in the price.

question How does it compare to the Summit / Ameri-Glide or Access Stair Lift?
Answer The Summit and Ameri-Glide stair lifts are the same machine, simply sold under different names.
This lift and the Access stair lift (or to give it their full name Thyssen-Krupp Access) are AC or mains electricity powered stair lifts.

The ACORN Stair Lift is a DC or battery powered stair lift. It may be helpful to make a direct, head-to-head comparison of these stair lifts with the ACORN Super-glide 120 DC stair lift, because some manufacturers are making some very misleading claims about their own and competitors products.

question How much do replacement batteries cost?
Answer The batteries that power the ACORN stair lift are very common, off-the-shelf items, available from any battery supplier. With normal use, they stay good for an average of 3 years. They cost in the region of $40.00 per pair. ACORN supply the batteries for $13.00 each, plus shipping.

question Once I’ve ordered an ACORN Super-glide stair lift, how long will it be before it’s delivered to me?
Answer  We appreciate that when the need for one of our stair lifts has been realized, people want it fast! We work closely with global carrier UPS, who will deliver your ACORN Super-glide within 5 working days of your order. While other companies are sending brochures - you’ll be busy, regaining the freedom of your home, traveling back up and down stairs!

question The user of the stair lift has some problems bending their knees - or the stairway is quite narrow. Will the ACORN Super-glide fit?
Answer Shouldn’t be a problem! We have a option called the ACORN Super-glide Perch. It is particularly useful for those with limited knee articulation and for installations where the stairway is unusually narrow. If the staircase is at least 26" (66cms) wide, the ACORN Super-glide Perch will do the job.

question What is the maximum weight that the ACORN Super-glide will cope with?
Answer The standard maximum user weight is 290lbs - however, we can supply a heavy duty motor as an extra cost option that is suitable for users weighing a maximum of 350lbs.

question The stairway has a turn in it. Can I still install an ACORN Super-glide stair lift?
Answer In many cases, yes. If the stairway has a sub-landing at the turn, it’s often possible to fit two straight stair lifts and save yourself $$$$ on the price of one curved-rail lift. Please contact us and we will go through all of the options available to you.

question Can I work on the equipment myself?
Answer Anybody with a reasonable level of Do-It-Yourself competence and a logical and methodical approach to practical work will be comfortable working on the ACORN Super-glide. You can access wiring diagrams and technical specifications - and order replacement parts, on-line. It goes without saying that technical assistance is just an e-mail or a phone call away.

question What is the Returns Policy?
Answer Stair lifts are custom made product. The track is cut to the length of your stairs and custom made based on which side of the staircase to mount the unit. As this is a custom made product, cut to your specifications, it is non returnable. Once the manufacturer has cut the track, your order becomes non-refundable. It is therefore essential that you follow the measurement guidelines, and double check before placing your order. If you have any problems or questions we will be pleased to answer them just jive us a call.
